About this deal

The dead boy's father wants to find out what happened, but the mother is a junkie on 'brown' of heroin and only wants her next fix. I am in agreement with some other reviewers on here. How anyone can read this book and give it 5 stars is beyond me. I like a good thriller/crime story and this is none of the above.

Not sure what anyone else has been reading, but there was no suspense, no drama, and anyone should be able to work out who the perpetrator is by about half way through the book.

It's been years since I last read a Martian Cole novel and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this dark gritty readable gangster thrillers. The side plot is as uninspired as it is meaningless. It's obvious who the author wants you to feel sorry for in the affair...but, I'm not buying it. It just comes across like misandry dressed up as drama.

And I'm so glad I did. The Know was a genuinely absorbing read. The characters were multi-dimensional, even the short-used ones, and their interactions were dramatic without being forced. And the plot twist; I didn't see it coming in any way but it still made brilliant sense. The story takes a little while to get going but once the dynamics have been established it helps make the final third much more impactful. The author really understands her characters and spends a lot of time in their heads. This allows us to understand their motivations, simple as they may be. view: A dark and gripping crime epic, in one of my favourite stories by Cole, sees a seemingly accidental murder being investigated by the father of the victim, lead to uncovering some really dark untenable secrets within the underbelly of London. 8 out of 12 a b Shepherd, Robert. Joseph/Bella and Christina – I am not going to say too much about these except I found Joseph to be a bit weak in his inability to be a man and make a choice. Bella is one crazy b*tch! Loved how that storyline panned out! 😱 and poor Christine – right place, wrong time in life….that is all I am going to say about that! This is the first book by Martina Cole, I enjoyed her writing in the novel, it was a book that I could not put down, Paulie was clever enough to know the kind of girls who would make him money: not too good looking but not dogs either - that was alright on the kerb, but not in the comfortable surroundings of a parlour. Equally, if the girls were too good looking, they frightened the men off; he had noticed that over the years."

Hmm...this book is difficult for me to rate. The Business was my first introduction to Martina Cole and one of those impulse buys while doing a weekly shop. Any issues with the book list you are seeing? Or is there an author or series we don’t have? Let me know!
