Dialogue is clear and tight, sounds perfectly natural and dominated by the frontal array; effects and ambience are taken up by all the surround speakers, so that visuals match the sound, phones ringing off screen for example, cars moving across screen; children playing at a party; there is a real sense of naturalism, despite the supernatural elements of the film. Jump scares are suitably loud, while bass is tremendous, being tight, deep and effective, filling out effects and adding significantly to the score. Smile is a 2022 American psychological supernatural horror film written and directed by Parker Finn (in his feature directorial debut), based on his 2020 short film Laura Hasn't Slept. The film stars Sosie Bacon as a therapist named Rose Cotter, who, after witnessing the bizarre suicide of a patient, goes through increasingly disturbing and daunting experiences, leading her to believe what she is experiencing is supernatural. It also stars Jessie T. Usher, Kyle Gallner, Kal Penn, and Rob Morgan, as well as Caitlin Stasey playing the same character she played in the short film. Definitely one of the best horrors of the year. I actually didn't go to the cinema to see at as I stupidly listened to a couple of people saying they didn't enjoy it (not real movie fans, just casual cinema goers).
