About this deal
Flare resistance of the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 isn’t great which is unfortunately not uncommon with fast tele lenses. Veiling flare
The rumored Sony 85mm f/1.2 has zero appeal to me, no matter how good it’s likely to be optically, because of its probable size and price. (I could probably buy BOTH the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN and the Sigma 90mm f/2.8 for less than what the Sony 85mm f/1.2 will undoubtedly cost). Landscape comparison shot at F1.4 clearly (yes clearly) shows GM is sharper...sharper up to F4-5.6---at F8.0 i call even...All in all, bravo to Sigma for covering virtually all the bases with this lens. Autofocus Performance
Sony A7 III, Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art, 1/1250sec at f/1.4, ISO 100 (With thanks to the Spa Valley Railway) Your report very nicely showed the "performance" of both lenses. But actually it was mainly the optical performance. The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art is very well corrected for LaCA as well, only traces can be found in some situations. The Sigma has weather sealing to some degree and as far as we can tell the Sony 85mm f/1.8 does not. Mount All in all, we can tell that it’s not quite Sony GMaster status in terms of the physical “indestructibility”, however, it’s definitely built to stand the test of time and be a heavy-duty workhorse for many years to come.
